About me

I am a writer, filmmaker and researcher. Much of my work straddles anthropology and art and it is in the space ‘between’ that I feel most at home. After doing an MA and a PhD in Social Anthropology with Visual Media at the University of Manchester I joined the Art and Design institute MIRIAD at Manchester Metropolitan University as a research fellow. My training in social science is useful and important in this environment but increasingly it is artistic research that preoccupies and inspires me.

  1. Ms. Ravetz,
I just found your blog and am looking forward to going through it. I was trying to just find an email address for you as I’ve been leaning pretty heavily on Anna Grimshaw and your book Visualizing Anthropology during my MA here in Berlin at the Freie Uni.

I wanted to reach out and see if there was a possibility to get your insight on a couple things related to my MA photography project. I’ll be presenting my progress in one of the visual panels on Tuesday at the IUAES.

The book and the resources from the CAA site has been really helpful in putting vocabulary to my photography practice in this transition towards anthropology over the past two years and so it would be great to meet you and throw a couple questions your way as I’m trying to figure out the next step.

The conference is my first so I will most likely be properly overwhelmed so if you know of any especially interesting presentations or panels that relate to photography feel free to pass them along.

Hope this finds you well and I hope it’s ok to contact you this way.
    Best wishes,

    Mike Terry
